I’m playing Gwendolen in an upcoming production of The Importance of Being Earnest at Persephone Theatre (so excited!) The theatre is having a wig made for me (it’s going to fit like a glove), and today I had a fitting. Never done anything quite like this before.
Then the plastic “mold” was yanked off my head (with a bit of difficulty) and will be sent to Vancouver where the wig is being made. This is fantastic. Wearing an ill-fitting wig is a very uncomfortable experience, but I love working with good quality wigs. Can’t wait to see the final result!
It’s so much fun to have an actress for a blogging friend and hear the inside stories like this!
Sometimes behind the scenes is more interesting than what happens on stage!
That is REALLY INTERESTING (and totally bizarre)! I would never have guessed that’s how they do wig fittings. Never. But what a low-cost method (as long as none of that packing tape gets into any of your real hair – ouch).
It’s certainly strange and not exactly a flattering look, but it’s worth it if the wig fits well. There is no torture quite like having to wear a bad wig for three hours a night. Oh, the pain and itchiness.
