Will has a new pastime – making furniture out of wood.
I know, crazy concept, right? Why would you make furniture out of wood when you can make it out of particle board and melamine? But he does. And he’s pretty good at it, too.
Our new coffee table. The top is a slab of walnut and the legs are made from maple. There is not a screw or nail to be had. Mortise and tenons all the way.
(I like to run my feet along the rippled, smooth edge of it when I’m sitting on the couch, watching tv. It’s rebellious and comforting, all at the same time.)

So beautiful! My dad started woodworking once he retired, and he has been making some amazing stuff for my nephews. I asked for a blanket chest from him – still waiting, but I’ll share once he’s done!
I love the natural look of the bench. No point in beating wood in submission – it’s more sculpture and working with the grain and shape of what you have.
Agreed! I think it’s always best to work with the wood and bring out the natural beauty in the grain. I always mourn a little when I see a character home or Craftsman bungalow where someone has painted all the wood trim.
Can’t wait to see the blanket chest!
That coffee table is amazing. And no he is not crazy. Crazy would be for him to stop making such beautiful furniture. I wanna buy that coffee table. How much?
I think it would be a looooooong and expensive truck ride to where you are
